1. Inaugurated on 23 June 1961 by Shri VK Krishna Menon, the then Union Minister for Defence in the presence of Shri Yashwantrao Chavan, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sainik School Satara is the first amongst the chain of eighteen Sainik Schools existing in the country with the aim of preparing boys, who hail from financially weaker sections of the society; academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy. Spread over an area of about 125 acres, Sainik School Satara provides public school education to the children hailing from the states of Maharashtra and Goa. The pattern of this School has been moulded scrupulously in such a way that the Cadets studying herein acquire confidence leading to self dependence, accommodating nature, high esteem and respect for the views of others, secular approach and an incessant longing for maintaining sound mind in sound body which would ultimately make them successful in any walk of life whether in Armed Forces or outside.
